Nepali indigenous community in Australia receives training on advocacy skills
The Nepali indigenous community in Australia has received training on enhancing advocacy skills on the rights of the indigenous people and human rights. The Diplomacy Training Program, Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales provided the training on Saturday in collaboration with Nepalese Indigenous Nationalities Forum Australia (NINFA) at the University of New South Wales.
According to NINFA president Ganesh Tamang, the participants were trained on human rights and indigenous rights and the UN system, the relevance of human rights instruments of procedures, tracing the evolution of indigenous agenda at the UN and indigenous rights in Nepal. They were also trained on Universal Periodic Review Recommendations, Advocacy skill for the promotion of Indigenous Rights – in the Diaspora and within Nepal and Australian example of effective advocacy on indigenous rights.
The training was provided by Dr. Patrick Earle, the Executive Director of Diplomacy Training Program (DTP), Dr. John Pace Board member of DTP and Dr. Garth Nettheim former dean and professor of university of NSW.
32 persons attended the training. Due to the success of the training, DTP and NINFA have agreed to make the training an annual programme.
